Join us for a fun evening of writing exercises, brainstorming, and discussion!

Led by professional writers, our monthly 90-minute workshops provide unique opportunities for you to develop your craft and connect with other local creatives. Everyone is welcome—no experience necessary.

This month, we'll explore writing persuasive op-eds. Award-winning journalist Sonali Kolhatkar will share strategies for:

  • Synthesizing arguments in plain language
  • Conducting research to support your claims
  • Citing sources

She'll also discuss her favorite fact-checking tools and how we can effectively advocate for justice-oriented solutions to social problems. Writing exercises will reinforce the evening's core concepts.

Registration is required.

Sonali Kolhatkar is the founder, host, and executive producer of Pacifica’s popular weekly program, Rising Up With Sonali, which airs on KPFK and KPFA and is also available as a TV show on Free Speech TV. She is the author of Rising Up: The Power of Narrative in Pursuing Racial Justice (City Lights, 2023) and serves as the racial justice and civil liberties editor at YES! Magazine. She is also Senior Correspondent and Writing Fellow for the Independent Media Institute’s Economy for All project and was formerly a weekly columnist at Truthdig. She holds a Master’s degree in Astronomy from the University of Hawaii and two undergraduate degrees in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Texas at Austin. Sonali lives in Pasadena with her husband and two sons.
