Tween writers will learn about, and create, their own graphic novel!

Calling all young writers going into grades 4 - 7! Do you want to talk story? Do you want to talk comics?

Join us for a 5-week series where we will delve into the elements of creative writing and visual storytelling through comics! Each week we will tackle a different subject while we work towards creating our own graphic zine by the beginning of May. We will learn about story arcs, paneling and visuals, and much more. Be prepared to create your own graphic novel!

Halfway through the Tween Writers' Club, we'll have a special author visit from Victoria Ying! She'll talk with us about her experience writing and illustrating graphic novels for kids. With her insight and what we'll learn along the way, we will craft our own comic by the end of the series! She wrote and drew City of Secrets, and has illustrated the Diana (Wonder Woman) comic books by Shannon Hale.

We ask that registered writers be prepared to commit to at least 4 of the 5 weekly meetings.

Please register using your child's name.

Creative writing offers many benefits to students by encouraging creativity, imagination, self-expression, communication skills, and of course, literacy! Why comics? Graphic novels can provide a visual narrative while evoking emotional impact through an immersive experience! Why Tweens? We get it - it's a tough age! Too big for the little kid programs, not old enough for the teen programs. These special tween only programs give those inbetweeners a place of their own where they can be themselves with other kids their age.
