Explore Afrofuturism’s everyday impact through discussion and creative activities!
Join us for a series of conversations about thought-provoking works of science fiction.
Together, we’ll explore the power of Black imagination through reading, writing, and collective reflection—and consider how we can lean into new visions for ourselves and our communities.
Open to all—especially:
• Artists, writers, and freedom dreamers
• Afrofuturists of all kinds
• Anyone curious about Black imagination, speculative storytelling, and collective liberation
We’ll delve into:
• The power of mundane Afrofuturism
• The role of freedom dreaming in movement work
• How identity, art, and futurism intersect
Registration is required. Ahead of each meetup, we’ll have ten books available for registered participants to pick up at Buena Vista Branch Library on a first-come, first-served basis. You’re welcome to stop by the Adult Information Desk or call us at 818-238-5625 to check availability. If copies run out, feel free to bring your own to the meeting. Additional copies are available through our catalog, the Libby app, or online.
The June selection is A Few Rules for Predicting the Future by Octavia E. Butler.
