Blood Donor Criteria:
- All donors must bring a picture ID.
- Aspirin is okay.
- Please wait 56 days between blood donations.
- Eating a Meal before Blood Donation - Okay to eat a meal before blood donation.
- Hydration - Good to be hydrated before donating blood. Drink plenty of water.
- Tattoos - Are now okay! There is no longer a waiting period to donate blood after receiving a tattoo unless it was done out of the country, then it’s a one-year deferral. If it was not done at a professional establishment, it is also a one-year deferral.
- Diabetics can donate blood.
- Pregnancy - 6 month waiting period to donate blood after giving birth.
- Cancer Patients - Cancer patients can donate blood providing they are all healed and no longer taking chemotherapy or radiation treatments.
- Blood Thinner Medications - Not okay to donate.
- Blood Pressure Medications - Okay to donate. Please note, everyone’s blood pressure is screened prior to donating blood.
- Mental Health Medications - Okay to donate.
- Diabetes Medications - Okay to donate.
- Monthly Menstrual Cycle - Okay to donate blood while on monthly menstrual cycle, if Hemoglobin levels are fine.
- Traveling out of Country - Okay to donate blood if you stayed in a city section of country you are visiting. No rural or high mosquito or malaria populated locations. Cancun Mexico is okay.
- Covid 19 - Okay to donate blood as long as they are all healed. Also, okay to donate blood after receiving Vaccine. If they feel fine day of blood donation one may donate blood.
- Smoking Marijuana - Okay to donate.
- Those who have lived or stayed an accumulative of three years in the UK, Ireland and France are now okay to donate blood with Red Cross. Donor(s) must first call 866-236-3276 prior to scheduling their appointment to be cleared. By calling this number prior to scheduling their appointment they will have this removed from their profile and will then be able to schedule.
