We will be reading Give Bees a Chance by Bethany Barton. Not sure whether to high-five bees or run away from them? Well, maybe you shouldn't high-five them, but you definitely don't have to run away from them. In a humorous back and forth, an enthusiastic bee-loving narrator tries to convince Edgar that bees are more than just stinging machines, pointing out how extra special and important they are to the world, and even to humankind! Besides making yummy honey, they help plants grow fruits and vegetables. And most bees wouldn't hurt a fly (unless it was in self-defense!).
A book club for kids is one of the best ways to combine learning and fun. Early readers book clubs support the emerging literacy of kids who have graduated from story time and are being introduced to more formal “learn-to-read” techniques in school. This program will introduce kids to awesome books, get them excited about books and reading, and help them develop social skills through interacting with their peers.
The Northwest Branch Library is located on Victory Boulevard near Hollywood Way, not far from the Hollywood Burbank Airport. It is a one-story building.
