Once registered, you will need to pick up a free book at the Central Library and start reading. If you have any questions, you can email childrenslibrarian@burbankca.gov.
We will be reading Shad Hadid and the Alchemists of Alexandria by George Jreije. Twelve-year-old Shad Hadid is an aspiring baker whose life is uprooted when he discovers he’s descended from a long line of alchemists and sent to the mysterious Alexandria Academy. Only, his arrival at the school awakens a nefarious force long lurking in the shadows, and he’ll soon learn he holds the key to either stopping—or unleashing—their evil plot.
A book club for kids is one of the best ways to combine learning and fun. Early readers book clubs support the emerging literacy of kids who have graduated from story time and are being introduced to more formal “learn-to-read” techniques in school. This program will introduce kids to awesome books, get them excited about books and reading, and help them develop social skills through interacting with their peers.
The Burbank Central Library is located at the corner of Glenoaks Boulevard and Olive Avenue in downtown Burbank. It is a two-story building with elevator access.
