Comics Squad Book Club

A Graphic Novel Book Club for Kids in Grades 2-5

Join Miss Jenny and friends to discuss our book and play games. Once you are registered, be sure to pick up your book at the Buena Vista Library.

Space is limited. Registration is required for the first book club meeting of this school year.

Once registered, you will need to pick up a free book at the Buena Vista Branch Library and start reading. If you have any questions, you can email childrenslibrarian@burbankca.gov.

We will be reading Stepping Stones by Lucy Knisley. "Jen did not want to leave the city. She did not want to move to a farm with her mom and her mom's new boyfriend, Walter. She did not want to leave her friends and her dad. Most of all, Jen did not want to get new "sisters," Andy and Reese. If learning new chores on Peapod Farm wasn't hard enough, then having to deal with perfect-at-everything Andy might be the last straw for Jen. Besides cleaning the chicken coop, trying to keep up with the customers at the local farmers' market, and missing her old life, Jen has to deal with her own insecurities about this new family . . . and where she fits in."

A book club for kids is one of the best ways to combine learning and fun. Early readers book clubs support the emerging literacy of kids who have graduated from story time and are being introduced to more formal “learn-to-read” techniques in school. This program will introduce kids to awesome books, get them excited about books and reading, and help them develop social skills through interacting with their peers.

Please register using your child’s name. To register additional children, use the “add more people” button. Caregivers attending the program with a child do not need to register.
